Make community building a core Metaverse design principle.Three considerations to successfully build communities in the Metaverse The Sims and World of Warcraft, which some compare to Second Life, both achieved greater popularity in part because they're constructed as games with a sense of purpose. Roblox, which successfully IPO-ed in March 2021, is an example of a sandbox game that gives users toolkits and freedom to build things while also fostering a commonly shared purpose – a space where anyone who wants to can design games for others to play. The same desire for purpose-driven community applies in the digital world. The COVID-19 pandemic may have exacerbated our desire for purpose-driven community to overcome loneliness. Purpose gives us a reason to thrive and grow.
